интервью с Рэем и Анитой:
In the 90's, 2 unlimited was worldwide famous. Today they work as Ray & Anita on their return, and they do it while it was discovered that Anita has breastcancer and is getting chemotherapy. "We're continuing altho I'm ill, and that calms me down," says Anita.
Why did the train stop 14 years ago?
Ray: We signed a contract with Byte Records, but it was a really tough contract. When you sell 22 million records, work 320 days a year and notice that you don't get paid enough for that, then it's logical that you want a better contract. But our producer, Jean Paul de Coster, didn't see it that way. We can't use the name 2 unlimited right now, but luckily people also recognize us as Ray & Anita.
You guys were a couple during those days.
Ray: That's right, but we kept it out of the press. It was private. We were together for a while, but when it stopped we always remained friends.
You were both 19 and then all of a sudden make loads of money?
Ray: When I got the chance to join 2 unlimited, I was a cook. In one weekend I made more money than one month of working in the kitchen. We were number 2 in England, stayed in great hotels, had bodyguards and groupies.. but our down to earth level from Amsterdam helped us to keep both feet on the ground.
Was it hard to say goodbye to all the fame?
Ray: It was at first. I had to fill in my own life all of a sudden.
Anita: I was completely done with it. After 5 years of hard working it was good to do nothing for a while, altho I kept on working hard on my radio and tv programme and my solo-album. I didn't notice that I was killing my own body.
Aren't you afraid for all of that again?
Ray: After our performances in the Ethias Arena, we knew that we wanted it. Our single In da name of love was number 4 in Holland en will be out in 24 countries. The difference is that we have a lot of input right now. We do everything in our own pace. Because of Anita's disease we can't go all the way. It will cost her too much energy. We will make a new album and a few great and big concerts are coming up, also in Belgium.
How are you, Anita?
I didn't mean to combine our comeback with breastcancer. I have been getting chemo for a while already and can't do too much. I'm tired very fast, but I'm convinced that I'll recover. Instead of putting everything on hold, we decided to go through with the comeback. It calms me down. The music is out, the people can see and hear us and in the meantime I can recover slowly. This is better than putting everything back into the shadows. I do not want everyone to be sad because of the bad news.
